The Chicago Community Security Infrastructure Improvement Program
is designed to enhance the security and safety of Chicago neighborhoods
and commercial districts. The extensive menu of alternative public-way-improvements
permits a selection of physical improvements appropriate to various
neighborhood needs and characteristics. These improvements affect
neighborhood access, traffic and pedestrian circulation and environmental
quality.
Sonoc Architects prepared a variety of physical public-way-improvements
that address and modify the Chicago street grid as it relates to
adjoining commercial uses at edges of residential neighborhoods.
These improvements include, landscaping, cul-de-sac alternatives,
street furniture, traffic circles, diagonal medians, gated entries,
lighting enhancements, roadway pavement, traffic calming devices,
parking alternatives and neighborhood gateways.
